Zedekiah’s Cave is a meleke limestone quarry that runs for 5 acres under the Muslim quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. This quarry has been carved for over thousand years and it is the biggest quarry ever found in Jerusalem. It was found out that Zedekiah’s Cave stretched from Jeremiah’s Grotto and Garden Tomb in ancient days. This cave is called in various names such as Solomon’s quarries, Royal caverns and cotton cave for it was used to store cotton.

Zedekiah’s Cave can be reached just below the Old City wall between Herod Gates and Damascus. The cave steps will lead to a 300 feet chamber which could be compared to an auditorium. Drops of water, commonly called as Zedekiah’s tears fall from the ceiling. Artificial galleries were sewn beyond auditorium.

Aside from the mouth of Zedekiah’s Cave, the rest were carved by slaves and laborers for several thousand years. During Suleiman the Magnificent period, the cave was sealed for security reasons and it was only during 1854 that the cave was rediscovered.
